A step towards future farming in INDIA

JAI

A step towards helping our farmers.

Problem Today

India has the largest arable land in the world followed by China and the US. Despite this , the Indian agricultural sector is way behind China in terms of the agricultural sector.Nevertheless, there is potential for major growth and gain in the agricultural sector because currently , Indian farms have productivity of 30-60% of what it is being produced in the farms of developed and some developing countries.

CURRENT SCENARIO

Farms and Farmers

  • Average landholding in India is less than 1ha.
  • Farmers can’t afford technical experts who have knowledge of proper scientific methods.
  • Improper Marketing

Farmers who have inadequate marketing skills fail to get a suitable price for their produce. Inadequate means of transport forces the farmers to sell their produce to local moneylenders.

    Credit Facilities

Credit facilities are inadequate in rural areas. Farmers are not able to raise credit from rural banks easily. They depend on money lenders who charge high rates of interest.

    Storage problem

Storage facilities are inadequate and the farmers are compelled to sell their products immediately after harvest at the prevailing market prices, which are bound to be low.

    Problems faced by Government

Due to a large number of farms, the government faces difficulties from the administrative point of view to collect land taxes and distribute subsidies.

    Labour Problem

    Our Solution

    Cooperative Farming

Cooperative farming is simply pooling of small lands and other resources together to form a large land, and performing agricultural activities together on that large land and dividing the profits among the shareholders of the large farm after the crop is sold.

    • Farmers can initiate a pool or join an existing pool of land near them using a simple user interface of an android/web app.
    • The central idea of our model revolves around blockchain. By creating a digital passport for agricultural products, blockchain technology can be used in breaking down barriers not only in tracking food from field to fork but also in farmers’ ability to approach a better market and sell their crops.
    • Capital required for buying farming inputs for various pools can be generated by crowdfunding rather than a bank. We plan to create a platform wherein investors can invest in a particular pool in anticipation of profits.
    • Investors can fund any pool present in any part of India and will earn returns when crops are harvested and sold.
    • Financial bookkeeping for the pool will be stored in the blockchain network to provide transparency to the platform, helping investors to track their funds and make better decisions.
    • A team of Agricultural engineers and Agri experts will be appointed for every few pools to increase production from the pool. This monitoring by the experts can help the farmers increase production and profits
    • Crop certification will be provided which can be verified using transaction logs stored in the blockchain network. This will help in the prevention of food adulteration.
  • The unorganized sector like agriculture will be digitized. This will help in solving problems like hoarding of crops, adulteration of food, etc.
  • Since every few pools will have a team of agricultural experts dedicated to overall monitoring, it will ensure better guidance and assistance to pools whenever required.
  • Dedicated teams will ensure that appropriate decisions are taken whenever required and that there is proper coordination with the government and its schemes.
  • The product will be sold in target markets in order to maximize profits.
  • Newer concepts like Agro forestation, contract farming, tissue culture farming, organic farming, crop rotation, mixed farming, etc will be used, especially on less fertile lands. The team of agricultural experts will choose the best methods to be used in a particular pool based on soil, weather, etc.
  • The agricultural sector will be revived and the productivity of farm products will be enhanced manifolds. This will not only make the lives of farmers and farm labourers easier but will also improve the food security of the nation.
  • Agricultural engineering will be promoted and farmers will feel proud of their own work which will lead to a reduction in suicidal cases. T his will encourage rural youth to go towards pursuing agriculture as a serious career and bring in new innovations in the field .
  • Till now we have planned to generate profits by taking a share from the increased revenue of the farmer. Another source of profit can be the transaction fees charged to investors while they invest in various pools.

Along with the profits mentioned above there is introduction of various farming techniques that will help the agriculture field flourish. These are the concepts of agroforestry which implies a farming model wherein along with production of normal grains, pulses, there is also cultivation of shrubs, trees which prove very beneficial in increasing the farm productivity. Along with this there is tissue culture farming, contract farming, organic farming, crop rotation, mixed farming and other farming models which when brought to practice may increase the profits to double.

    Future we can think....

A Bright future waiting for us.

    Technologies Used

    BLOCKCHAIN

The central idea of our model revolves around blockchain. By creating a digital passport for agricultural products, blockchain technology can be used in breaking down barriers not only in tracking food from field to fork but also in farmers’ ability to approach a better market and sell their crops. ”

    BLOCKCHAIN

    MACHINE LEARNING

This model also incorporates Machine Learning algorithms. Image processing would be used to estimate the stage of development of the sapling, and to predict any diseases it might be infected with, which would be beneficial at initial period of growth. Previous dataset would be used to predict the return price of the crop .“ ”

    MACHINE LEARNING

    CLOUD COMPUTING

    “To Host peer-peer network . ”

    CLOUD COMPUTING

    Web and Android

“To create a platform where farmers can approach an already existing pool of land or create one ,using a simple android UI and features of blockchain. The basic functioning of our app allows the farmers to create an account which will be followed by digitalization and physical verification of his land. ”
